Jessica Kidd – Asher House, Tallahassee
Asher House, Tallahassee is home to native Floridian, Jessica Kidd! A freshman at Florida State University, Jessica is studying interior design and specializing in entertainment lighting. “It’s something that is in my soul,” she says. “I am always amazed by the colors and lights at concerts and performances I go to.” Her dream job is to be a lighting designer for an amusement park. With two family connections at Universal Studios in Orlando, her dream might well come true!
Jessica’s second love is color guard, in which she has participated since 7th grade. “It’s the closest to God I’ve ever felt,” she says. “I get to express so much power, and love, and passion.” In her sophomore year of high school, Jessica joined the World Guard (the highest class of color guard), making an even deeper commitment to the sport. Her high school team placed 8th at the national championships her senior year. Now in college, Jessica is thrilled to be part of the FSU color guard. As an “alternator,” she doesn’t perform every routine, but normally performs at the halftime show at football games. Each week, there’s a new fun show theme, such as Disney or Harry Potter. Learning a new routine every week is a challenge Jessica welcomes!
Jessica enjoys living at Asher House with her roommate, who is a long-time friend from summer camp. Her favorite times at the house are when everyone is in the kitchen together making a meal or getting ready for the day or for an activity while playing music.
Recently, Jessica helped start a weekly non-denominational Bible study group for the FSU marching chiefs. The group meets at Asher House and everyone is welcome! She loves being connected to her team as well as sharing Asher in this special way.
