Last weekend, residents from Asher Houses Boston and Brookline, along with members of their Local Advisory Councils, volunteered with Cradles to Crayons as part of an Asher in Action volunteer event. June was full of connection, community, and summer fun! ☀️
From our Open House in Boston during Annual Meeting weekend, to incredible DiscoveryBound events in Los Angeles, NYC, and St. Louis, to LAC gatherings and dinners shared with housemates, every Asher House was buzzing with activity. It was a wonderful start to the season, and we can`t wait for all that`s still to come this summer! 💙
Last weekend, Asher House, St. Louis and friends gathered in Forest Park for a picnic before heading to Shrek at the Muny—the largest outdoor theater in the country! 🎭🌳
Despite rainy skies throughout the day, everyone enjoyed bringing dinner to the park, sharing dessert, and catching up before the show. 🍪🌧️ The cast was phenomenal, and Shrek was full of energy, laughter, and unforgettable performances. This beloved St. Louis tradition continues to be a summertime favorite for all who attend! 🎟️🧺
Earlier this month, Asher House, NYC and DiscoveryBound gathered in the sunshine for an afternoon of pickup soccer, connection, and community in the heart of New York City.
With perfect weather, a welcoming field, and a simple sign reading “World Cup in the Park – Pickup Soccer, Everyone Welcome,” people began joining us almost immediately. Before long, we had players representing Australia, Brazil, Mexico, Norway, Haiti, Spain, and France—it truly felt like a global gathering.
Over several hours, we played game after game, ending with an exciting 5-on-5 match complete with halftime! Between games, conversations flowed naturally as we rested, hydrated, and connected with new friends.
One especially meaningful moment came while chatting with a group of curious Norwegian science students, sharing simple ideas about Christian Science, God`s love for all, and the joy of community. Another participant from Haiti thanked us for creating a space where everyone felt welcome to play. And as one of the Norwegians said, “This is exactly what we were expecting when we came to New York!”
We`re grateful for a day filled with sunshine, laughter, new friendships, and the reminder that community can begin with something as simple as a soccer ball and an open invitation. 💜🌎
